Dear friends and allies,
JFAAP will be taking to the streets on October 17th during the Raise the Rates Week of Action. We are inviting our allies, community and social justice groups, students and unions across the City to join us on Friday, October 17th, 2014, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, at the corner of Jane and Finch, to celebrate our strength and resilience, to demand justice and show solidarity with our family of residents, workers, activists, and creative minds that won’t rest until poverty is ended.
We expect the minimum wage to be above the poverty line, social assistance rates that promote health and dignity, decent and affordable housing, public transit, childcare, and other important community programs and services for all people regardless of status, neighborhood or skin colour. We expect a quality public education and accessible and affordable post-secondary education for our children. As a community rich in talents, culture and nature, we expect to live without the fear of racial profiling, immigration raids, homelessness and hunger with no line 9 threatening our homes and health.
Please endorse our October 17th rally and come show your support. Please bring your banners, flags, signs, megaphones, drums, whistles and other instruments … to help make a lot of noise.
